Nutrition

Correct practice of good nutrition is the fundamental aspect behind any successful training regime. By practicing good nutrition, not only will you be supplying your body with the right fuels to perform, but you will also be maintaining a healthy, fully functioning body!

There are 6 nutrient classes which all play an important role in the body. These classifications are: Carbohydrate, Fat, Protein, Vitamins, Minerals and Water.

All foods can be ultimately broken down into carbohydrate, fat or protein. RDA of these three is: Carbohydrate – 55-60%, Fat – 30% (less than 10% of this should be saturated fat), and Protein – 10-15%.

Carbohydrate is the body’s primary fuel! It plays the major role in providing sufficient energy for you to train! Incorrect levels of carbohydrate before, during or post-exercise will result in incorrect functioning of your body, poor quality in your training and the failure to meet your goals – whether they are weight loss, strength build of general fitness maintenance.

Carbohydrate regulates fat and protein metabolism, so simply by not having enough carbohydrate in your diet can result in the storage of fat in the body and the loss of muscle to compensate! The nervous system also relies on this supply of carbohydrate for energy.
